Warren Buffet's Long Bet

Warren
Warren Buffet has made the following bet: "Over a ten-year period commencing on January 1, 2008, and ending on December 31, 2017, the S & P 500 will outperform a portfolio of funds of hedge funds, when performance is measured on a basis net of fees, costs and expenses."
  • Warren Buffet is the "GURU" for finances and his company Berkshire Hathaway is one of the best companies out there. He's so good, he's number 2 richest behind Bill Gates by a few billion.

Buffet didn't see the train wreck in subprime coming. He didn't know that the insurance industry (such as AIG) would be hit as hard as it was EVEN THOUGH HIS PRIMARY EXPERTISE IS IN THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY! His investments were hit really hard. He was totally caught with his pants down, but now he's making predictions?

I'm guessing new regulations and a crackdown on those that are suppose to be enforcing all regulations will throw a wrench in his long bet.

Sadly i think the era of Buffet is over and hedge funds, much like mutual funds when Buffet was younger will be the new money makers. There are too many tools, forecasting methods and just huge money in the hedge fund world right now. They have to win.

Even thou its a pool of hedge funds, their very nature to take big bets will drive returns higher WB would be correct if the bet was on a risk adjusted basis but it does not appear to be.

That pretty much sums up america's stance over the past 50 years. no investment in transportation, energy. maximize profits now, forget infrastructure. we're screwed for it.

No brainer here. Every recession/depression has been followed by an economic boom. While past performance is no predictor of future results, time is on Buffet's side.

I don't doubt Warren Buffet's predictions on the S&P performance. What I am curious about, is at his age, will he even be around to see it come to reality...

Buffet probably won't be alive in 10 years to see the fruits of his prediction.

Also, Buffet is the #1 wealthiest person in the world, now.
